MAPUSA
Locals from the two wards “ Velotim and Ecoxim “ expressed difficulties in having to visit two different places for their postal and security concerns.
For their postal needs, residents from Velotim have to visit Carona post office in Aldona, while over security concerns they are attached to Mapusa Police station. Similarly, locals from Ecoxim have been attached to Salvador-do-Mundo post office and Porvorim Police station.
“Many times locals get confused due to this arrangement, putting them to great hardship,” a gram sabha member said.
On October 13, 2016, the affected people had written to the panchayat to sort out this revenue village jurisdiction which caused a lot of practical problems to the locals.
Sarpanch Vinay Chopdekar informed the gram sabha that he had apprised secretary, home ministry, and the police on the issue. “Now, we may have to meet the revenue minister to sort out the issue,” he said. A gram sabha member Jaydev Haldankar said the panchayat will have to also write to the BDO and the Directorate of Panchayats.
Another gram sabha member Gemelin Fernandes said a lot of illegal houses have come up in the fields of Olaulim.
He said people who notice any constructions should immediately report to the panchayat so that the local body could take action against the illegality.
He then requested the panchayat to write to the health department not to issue NOCs to such constructions without the panchayat approval.
The panchayat agreed to look into the matter and accordingly take action.
The sarpanch informed the gram sabha that the Goa State Pollution Control Board had sent a memorandum to the panchayat asking for list of hotels, establishments, factories with or without consent in its jurisdiction.
The Directorate of Panchayats has also sent a memorandum seeking a report of number of shops that are in the panchayat area with or without permission.
The gram sabha also decided to chop dangerous trees due to approaching monsoons. The issue of Pomburpa spring was also raised.
