MARGAO
Blame it on manpower constraints or otherwise, there‘s no one around at the South Goa district hospital to carry items meant for the patients inside the South Goa left near the hospital entrance gate by their relatives.
In fact, Sunday saw items piling up near the entrance gate, with no designated staff around to carry the items from the gate and deliver the same to the patients inside. The items include water bottles and other personal belongings such as clothes and toiletries which were left at the hospital by the patients of near and dear ones.
Sources in the know attributed the situation to the shortage of manpower, including Multi-tasking staff that has hit such areas. The District hospital has barred outside food for the patients on the plea that it would be nigh possible to deploy manpower to carry outside food to each and every patient housed in the hospital. The district hospital presently plays host to over 500 patients, with officials saying that it would not take hours for the staff to carry outside food to the patients.
When the media drew the attention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who visited the South Goa district hospital on Sunday, he conceded that the manpower shortage has affected such areas.
He, however, said the government is filing up vacancies in a big way, even though he admitted that some people do not want to join duties.
“Let the people join even on a contract basis. Let people join as MTS as the government has already advertised the posts,” he said, adding that the government will deploy additional MTS workers to the South district hospital.
