MARGAO
These two senior revenue officials, both deputy Collectors, attached to Margao sub-division, are drafted for duties other than revenue in times of Covid pandemic.

With the oxygen supply shortage turning out a major issue in the battle against Covid, Deputy Collector and SDM, Margao Jyoti Kumari, IAS and John Fernandes have a clear brief from the administration “ to ensure there’s no shortage of medical oxygen for the hospitals and to see there’re are no hurdles in the transportation of oxygen to the hospitals.

If Deputy Collector Jyoti Kumari does not stop making rounds of the ESI hospital to personally monitor the medical oxygen status at the ESI hospital on a daily basis, deputy Collector John has a clear brief to ensure that he somehow sends and arranges a tanker to head to Kolhapur to get medical oxygen for the South Goa district hospitals and other hospitals.

Kumari was at the ESI hospital to find out about the medical oxygen supply at the hospital, just to ensure that the supply from the oxygen plant at the Cuncolim Industrial estate meet the daily requirements of the hospital.

On the other hand, Deputy Collector John was spotted at Arlem near an oxygen manufacturing plant, with the sole brief to get the oxygen tanker do the maintenance work and head to Kolhapur to transport the quota of oxygen supplied to Goa. “It does take time for the oxygen tanker to go to Kolhapur and come back, but at the end of the day the vehicle  returns back with oxygen which saves the lives of the people”, John said.

It is not out of place to mention here that the South Goa district administration headed by Collector, Ruchika Katyal, IAS has accorded importance to the transportation of medical oxygen in trolleys as evident by the fact that police vans escort the trolleys from the filling plants to the district oxygen, to ensure regular supply of oxygen.
