In a novel fight to curb the spread of Covid, the Orlim Parish has decided to convert an old Portuguese house in the village as a Covid isolation centre for patients seeking self-isolation.
Providing details of facilities being planned at the Covid isolation centre, Orlim Parish Priest Fr Roger (Raju) Godinho said the house would not be a treatment centre but an isolation centre.
“We have an old Portuguese house, where we can accommodate at least 25 people easily, with enough toilet facilities. This is a small step to break the chain. If a person is tested positive, and if he is asked by the doctor to stay in home isolation, this is a best option as the rest of the family members will be saved,” said Fr Godinho.
“This is not a treatment centre but an isolation centre. No one will be allowed to visit the patients. Food will be dropped at the gate. We will keep the check on patients by phone and if required, will shift them to the hospital,” he added.
Explaining the purpose of this initiative, Fr Godinho said the whole idea is to break the chain in whatever way possible. “I believe in doing small things and have very good support from my volunteers. This is the time everyone has to do something and this is our little initiative to reach out with the little facilities that we have in the village. At the same time we have to be extremely careful while reaching out to others. It's a time to stay at home, stay positive and pray,” he said.
