The Goa Tourism Department has issued ‘show-cause’ notices to the water sports operator in connection with the death of a jet-ski pilot at Varca beach on May 12. The notices were necessitated after an initial inquiry by the department revealed that the pilot was unlicensed, besides the fact that rough seas made it unsafe for water sports operations.
“The police investigation and report reveals that the owner of the jet ski allegedly allowed his employee, who was a helper not holding any permissions/licence to operate the jet ski from the competent authority to navigate the jet ski,” Deputy Director of Tourism Rajesh Kale told The Goan. “The water sports operator allegedly allowed his employee to venture into the rough sea waters without providing any safety harness as a result of which he failed to supervise his water sports business activity,” Kale added.
The CoP and Dept of Tourism, have issued show cause notices to the water sports operator in connection with the mishap that led to the death of a jet ski operator. According to Department of Tourism report, the jet ski operator was registered under the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act and the validity of the permission was effective till May 31.
As per the FIR filed by the police on May 12th, the sea was rough and weather was not favourable for water sports activity. Yet the jet ski helper navigated the jet ski in rough sea and got hit by a strong wave as a result of which he collapsed on the jet ski, lost balance and fell into the sea and got drowned.
