Quick action by Valpoi police has saved the life of a 5-year-old girl, who was dumped by her accused on a hill at Sattari last night. The attempted murder has shocked the State.
Golu Thakur, a labourer from Jharkhand has been arrested for attempted murder under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code.
Preliminary details shared by the Valpoi police reveal that the accused youth abducted the girl late last night where he tried smashing her head with a stone and fled. The girl, whose family hails from Belgaum, lodged a missing person's complaint soon after which a search was launched.
“We searched the entire market and rounded up around 10 labourers. After thorough questioning, one of them confessed he had killed the girl. We began a frantic search on the hillock throughout the night and found her under a cashew tree. She was breathing after which we rushed her to the Sanquelim health centre. She was shifted to GMC where the doctors said she is stable,” PI Rahul Naik told The Goan.
The Valpoi police are interrogating the youth to ascertain the motive. The accused and the victim's family are known to each other as they work in a laterite stone quarry.
