Journalists face social media challenge: Vijai

Claiming that journalists face the biggest challenge from social media,TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai called for responsible journalism in the light of exclusivity being lost with the onset of the social media.

Addressing a gathering at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on the occasion of ‘Patrakar Din' after felicitating some journalists and policemen for their contribution in their respective fields,
Sardesai said journalists have to be careful while reporting in the
light of the challenge from the social media. He advocated "responsible jorunalism" while referring to journalism as the fourth pillar of democracy and being as important as the executive and the judiciary.
He also sought contribution of journalists towards the government's endeavour of creating a better Goa for
tomorrow.
Earlier, Sardesai referred to Bal Gangadhar Lokmanya Tilak as the icon of fearless journalism, while mentioning the late leader's movement of Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav as well as starting the newspaper ‘Kesari'.
Sardesai also highlighted late Tilak's slogan of ‘Swaraj is my birthright', while claming that Tilak was also called as the Father of Swarajya.
