North Goa will soon have a “North Goa District Office” on the lines of the one built in South Goa named the Matanhy Saldanha administrative complex.

The complex will replace the existing Goa State Library Museum at Patto which is in a dilapidated condition and has been decommissioned.

Sources have told The Goan, that the decision was taken at a meeting of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation on Friday.

The defunct Goa State Museum building was declared unsafe after it began sinking into the ground. Unsurprising considering that the entire Patto complex has been built on marshy land. The artifacts have been moved out and placed in other government buildings while the museum building was to be brought down and replaced.

However, sources inform that the latest plan will involve shifting several government offices located within the city including those at Junta House, the Information Department and other government departments from within the city to Patto.

“The move will ease traffic congestion from within the city and help the government offices that lie within dilapidated buildings within the city like Junta House to move into new premises,” a source present at the meeting told The Goan.

The government has chosen the Patto Complex on account of the higher FAR granted to the area allowing the government to build a higher building much like the new Central Library building that was built recently.

However, the CCP had earlier flagged concerns over moving government offices outside the city saying that moving government offices out would bring fewer people within the city reducing the footfalls of businesses and the traders and sellers in the city.

On Saturday, CM held a separate meeting to review traffic management at Mandovi and Zuari bridge. Officials of GSIDC, Traffic Goa Police, Contractors were present.
