Resuming his Janata Darbar at the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) and the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex on Friday, Kamat said the BJP has already identified its candidates for the forthcoming civic polls.
“The BJP is a party that works 24x7. We have our candidates ready for the ensuing Municipal elections. If the election process is announced tomorrow, we are fully geared up for the electoral battle,” Kamat said.
The Janata Darbar at the MMC assumes significance against the backdrop of the expiry of the elected council’s term last month, leaving many residents without elected representatives to address their grievances against the municipal administration.
Accountability in MMC
During his visit to the MMC, Kamat issued clear instructions to Margao Municipal Council Administrator Srinet Kothwale to file an immediate police complaint if any missing file is not traced within 24 hours.
Emphasising the need for accountability, the Minister said he had observed instances where files were allegedly being delayed, forcing citizens to make repeated visits to government offices.
“I have made it clear that such practices will not be tolerated. My visit is aimed at ensuring that work is completed within a day or two instead of making people run from pillar to post on the basis of vague assurances from the administration,” he said.
Kamat later visited the South Goa District Collectorate, where he heard grievances from members of the public. He said citizens were free to approach him with issues pertaining to any department, including the PWD, Electricity Department, District Administration and others. “Whether the matter relates to roads, electricity or any other department, we make every effort to find solutions to the problems brought before us,” he said.
Referring to infrastructure concerns, Kamat said complaints regarding potholes received through his WhatsApp group are attended to within 24 hours. “Most of the main roads have already been asphalted. There may be some issues concerning internal roads, but we are closely monitoring the situation and taking corrective measures wherever required,” he added.
