Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao on Saturday granted six days police custody to Nilesh Raikar (43), director of Kamaxi Forex Pvt Ltd and prime accused in the ongoing case of financial scam involving his company.
Raikar had surrendered before the EOC on Friday and was subsequently placed under arrest after he confessed to being involved in the scam.
While seeking custody of the accused, police in their statement listed the requirements of details of his bank accounts, property, details of how the illegal Fixed Deposit (FD) money was diverted into share trading, sources of his income and whether he had received any help from any associates.
In another development, the number of complaints in the case has also gone up to 420, with the total amount rising to a whopping Rs 28.75 crore.
“EOC is in the process of verifying Raikar’s mortgaged property. He claims to have mortgaged most of these to banks for obtaining loans to repay his investors,” said a member of the investigating team.
It has been learnt that among the properties owned by Raikar are four flats and five to six shops in Margao, a flat in Panaji, a flat and shop each in Mapusa and Calangute and two plots of land admeasuring 400 sq mts and 600 sq mts respectively in Betalbatim.
EOC has written to the sub-registrar requesting that these properties be prevented from being sold till the closure of the case, it was further disclosed.
Meanwhile, Raikar’s wife Nilima and mother Rekha on Saturday submitted before the EOC Police on Saturday for questioning from morning till evening 5 pm. His mother was the sleeping director of Kamakshi Forex.
They are believed to have resided at Kamakshi Temple, Shiroda in Ponda taluka since April 10 along with his family.
The EOC investigating team stated that Raikar’s mother and wife are cooperating with the investigation, and hence, the need for their arrest does not rise as of now.
Police informed that this total amount is not the principal amount paid by the investors, but is the amount assured by Raikar to them through post-dated cheques.
