Zilla Panchayat member and candidate from Tivim assembly constituency, Kavita Kandolkar resigned from Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday.
TMC’s State President Kiran Kandolkar is also expected to resign from the party within the next two days.
Citing the poor performance of the party in the recently concluded assembly polls, Kavita said she along with four sarpanchas and several other panchayat members from Tivim constituency have resigned from the primary membership of TMC with immediate effect.
“It was a tough decision. But karyakartas are not happy with the performance of the party in the recently held assembly election. Hence, there was a continuous request from karyakartas to quit the party,” Kandkolkar said in her resignation letter.
She also blamed I-PAC, the consultancy agency that ran the assembly campaign for TMC in Goa, and poll strategist Prashant Kishor for failing to keep their word in making payments to several people who were involved in the election campaign in the State.
She, however, said that they received good support from the party during the elections.
“We received very good support from the party but people of Goa did not accept it,” she said.
In the meanwhile, TMC’s State President Kiran Kandolkar is expected to follow in the footsteps of his wife and quit the party very soon.
Sources informed that Kiran was expected to resign from the TMC within the next two days.
Kavita who was a favourite in Tivim, lost to BJP’s Nilkant Halarnkar in the assembly election held on February 14 while her husband Kiran who contested from Aldona came third.
