The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday appointed former deputy chief minister, Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar as the vice president of the party while former Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar and ex-Pernem MLA, Dayananand Sopte as party secretaries.
The decision was announced at a key meeting of karyakartas held in a hotel in Panaji on Wednesday.
Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shripad Naik, State BJP President Sadanand Tanavade, former MP, Narendra Sawaikar and other senior leaders were also present.
While addressing the media, Tanavde said the BJP has already begun preparation for the 2024 parliamentary elections.
“The various on-going programmes of the party in different constituencies will help in galvanizing the party karyakartas. We will ensure that the party wins both the North and the South Goa seats in 2024,” Tanavade said.
Announcing the schedule of various programmes, he said, World Yoga Day will be celebrated on June 21 with programmes fixed at all gram panchayats and municipalities in the State.
Besides, June 23 will be celebrated as a “balidan divas” on the occasion of the death anniversary of party ideologue, Shayam Prasad Mukherjee while June 25 will be observed as the ‘black day’ to remind the draconian emergency enforced by former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.
PM’s ‘maan ki bhat’ programme will also be organised in every booth in the constituencies on June 26.
“We have appointed ‘pramukhs’ for various committees that will organise these programmes,” the BJP chief informed.
