Kejriwal told to appear in court on Jan 5

MAPUSA

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal got a reprieve on Wednesday after the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court adjourned the case against him to January 5.

The court, however, directed Kejriwal to remain present for the next hearing and to furnish a personal bond and a local surety in the case.

On Tuesday, the JMFC court had issued summons to the Delhi CM for violation of the model code of conduct in the 2017 assembly elections in the State asking him to remain present for hearing on Wednesday (Nov 29).

Representing Kejriwal, Adv Surel Tilve told the court that his client received the summons just one day earlier and sought for more time.

Tilve filed an exemption plea for Delhi CM from appearing for the hearing which was granted by the court.

Meanwhile, AAP leader Valmiki Naik questioned the intention of filing a case against Kejriwal which has been pending since the last five years.

“Delhi CM is our star campaigner who has been campaigning for us not only in Goa but all over India. During the campaign, he tells the voters how other parties try to get elected by spending money. However, if we want a corruption-free government, we should vote for the Aam Aadmi party," Naik said.

He further pointed out that similar cases were filed at other places in the rest of the country where the matter has been disposed of.
