Khaunte launches election campaign
PORVORIM: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte launched his election campaign in Socorro as an independent candidate after seeking blessings from the local deity.
Khaunte visited houses and distributed his report card highlighting the assurances given by him during the 2012 assembly elections vis-a-vis his achievements. ZP member Vaishali Satardekar, Socorro Sapanch Anil Pednekar and his well wishers accompanied him.
Addressing the villagers, Khaunte said the time has come to vote for a change, as people have witnessed the poor performance of the BJP government and frequent 'U turns' on major issues.
“On my part, I have fulfilled most of the assurances given in 2012," he said and added, "Major projects like multipurpose sports complex at Socorro and market complex at Porvorim could not be completed due to non-payment of bills of the contractors by the State government,” said Khaunte.
He said that with assistance of a local businessman, he has installed seven traffic signals from Sangolda-Socorro junction to Mandovi bridge. “The work of service road has been completed; non-bedded primary health centre has started operating and the land for fire station has been earmarked,” added Khaunte.
Socorro Sarpanch Pednekar said the panchayat got full support from Khaunte and this helped in the development of the village.
