Road safety campaign in Porvorim
PORVORIM: The Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) organised a road safety awareness campaign at Porvorim.
The volunteers of GOACAN holding placards on road safety stood near O’Coqueiro junction and advised vehicle owners to wear seat belts, helmets and drive cautiously. The traffic police assisted them.
Speaking to The Goan, GOACAN coordinator Roland Martins said it is of utmost importance to create awareness about road safety among general public to reduce accidents.
Traffic Inspector Salim Sheikh said traffic signals have been installed to ensure smooth movement of traffic. However, some vehicle riders do not bother to follow the traffic signals.
“Further, overtaking on bridges is prohibited and there is also a speed limit of 40 km per hour. Very few riders observe these rules while crossing Mandovi bridges,” said Sheikh.
