Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said BJP will not support any other independent candidates, except those backed by the BJP.
Addressing the BJP workers' meet at Vasco late Thursday night, Parrikar asked the workers to work hard for BJP's victory in Vasco.
Taking a dig at an independent candidate in Vasco, Parrikar said some independent candidates have been spreading news that they are being backed by BJP, which was not true.
“I like to make it amply clear that except for independent candidates that BJP has extended its support, BJP is not supporting any other independent candidate,” said Parrikar.
Vasco BJP candidate Carlos Almeida said all the development work, which is underway and some of which are completed, was taken up due to Parrikar's support before he was elevated to the position of defence minister.
Earlier, Parrikar released a booklet on developmental works undertaken by Almeida in the last five years and the works that are to be completed.

VASCO: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar refused to respond to reports that China's military capabilities of reaching New Delhi within hours in case of a war.
“Do not ask me about China or else, I will walk away from briefing the media,” said Parrikar.
He was asked by media persons to respond to a state-run Chinese TV channel's claim that it would take China's motorised troops 48 hours and its paratroops 10 hours to reach New Delhi in case of a war.
Parrikar insisted that he did not want to answer any question related to China's threat to attack Delhi.
Asked if there would be any increase in the amount of schemes promoted by the State BJP government, Parrikar said all the social and educational schemes would be upgraded by keeping inflation in mind.
To another query on comprehensive mobility, Parrikar said the government would try and introduce electric buses, metros and other faster mode of transport, but refused to elaborate how it would be implemented and whether it would be feasible.
