Khaunte ridicules CM’s hopes of achieving zero Covid mortalityTHE GOAN NETWORKPORVORIM Ridiculing Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement that the government was aiming towards achieving zero Covid mortality in the State, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said the present situation indicated that the mortality rate would increase substantially over the next few days.“The lack of infrastructure to treat patients and decisions like reopening of schools and Industrial Training Institutes do not reflect the genuine efforts of the State government towards achieving zero mortality.”“On the contrary, the present situation indicates that Covid mortality will increase substantially in the State next week. Making a political statement on zero mortality will not suffice, but the government must devise a proper plan to ensure zero mortality. Has the government prepared a full proof plan in this regard,” asked Khaunte. The Porvorim MLA said the sparse infrastructure and conflicting decisions, such as opening of schools, ITIs do not reflect the genuine efforts for zero mortality.“The State government has already announced that ITIs would be opened in the State and it would take a call regarding opening of schools after consultations with headmasters and PTAs” said Khaunte. He also came down heavily on the State government’s approach towards the Mollem biodiversity.“When the whole world is moving towards preserving nature, the Goa Government is bent on destroying the natural flora and fauna of Goa. Sustainable development is the buzz world around the globe, but the State government is doing just the opposite,” said Khaunte.Khaunte warned that people would not remain mute spectators to blatant violations of nature which would affect future generations.“The State government has succumbed to the Centre’s dictates. Covid seems to be the best cover up to suppress public opinion and the chief minister is seizing the opportunity time and again to satisfy his High Command while suppressing the just voices of Goans,” said Khaunte.
