Khola panchayat got its fourth Sarpanch in three years of the present term, when Pragnya Kamat was elected unopposed by seven of the nine panch members present at a special meeting on Tuesday.
Kamat was the only panch to file her nomination and was declared elected unopposed following the resignation of Priyanka Velip a fortnight ago, as part of a mutual agreement among ruling panchas.
Since the last panchayat elections, Khola panchayat has been backed by the BJP and the seven ruling panchas have agreed to rotate the post of sarpanch and dy sarpanch among themselves.
The previous panchas to serve as sarpanchas in the current tenure were Ajay Pagui, Krishna Velip and Priyanka Velip.
Former deputy chief minister and BJP State Vice-President Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar along with BJP (South-Goa) District President Prabhakar Gaonkar later visited the panchayat to wish the newly elected sarpanch Pragnya Kamat.
