Another case of loud music being played beyond the permissible limit has been registered by Anjuna Police, this time against the owner/manager of Kiki by the Sea at Assagao – but, as in several such cases, the action appears to have stopped with the registration of an offence.
Anjuna Police registered Crime No. 99/2026 on Wednesday under Rule 5 of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 and Section 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, after receiving an email from the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) and a complaint from PSI Amir Taral.
According to the police, music was played at Kiki by the Sea from 11 pm on September 8 to midnight on September 9, despite the stipulated restrictions. During the period, the sound level was recorded at 69.50 dB(A), which police said amounted to a violation and caused noise pollution in the locality.
The case has once again highlighted the growing perception that registering FIRs for noise violations has become little more than a routine exercise, with establishments repeatedly facing cases but continuing to operate.
While the police have registered the offence, there has been no arrest or immediate fine reported in the case, raising questions over how effectively such cases serve as a deterrent to establishments that repeatedly push the limits on noise.
