Relatives of the deceased Rajasthan tourist, who had died due to electrocution at the Colva beach, have demanded adequate compensation from the Goa government to his kith and kin of the family.
Residents also joined the relatives in the chorus for adequate compensation saying that a family has lost the only bread earner due to the negligence of the government agency.
The relatives pointed out that the deceased is survived by his wife and two young children, besides an aged father.
After they had a look at the place where the visitor was electrocuted to death, the relatives pointed out that the exposed cables of the ornamental lamps would have claimed many more lives visiting the beach.
“This will only bring a bad name for Colva in particular and Goa tourism in general. Care should be taken to ensure such incidents do not recur and claim the lives of innocent visitors,” they said.
Pointing out that the deceased was the only bread earner for the family, the relatives demanded that the Goa government pay adequate compensation for the kith and kin of the deceased.
“This is a clear case of negligence by the government agencies. How could the government agencies just leave the cables exposed on a beach visited by thousands,” they demanded to know.
Locals demanded a detailed probe into the episode and accountability, besides compensating the family.
“The incident has occurred close to the children’s play area visited by hundreds of kids every day. Just imagine a situation if the exposed cable was around the children. It would have ended in a big tragedy,” a local said.
They complimented the local MLA Venzy Viegas for raising the matter in the Assembly, insisting that the MLA force the government to take the issue to the logical conclusion.
