Over 100 workers along with their families and workers leader Swati Kerkar protested at the Koparde farm and shouted slogans against the government and the officials.
Speaking to reporters, Kerkar criticised the government policy for not regularising the workers at the cattle breeding farm, who are working for over 7 years. "The government is not taking the issue of workers seriously and the workers at cattle breeding farm at Koparde are being cheated," she stated.
"According to the government policy, the person who is working for more than 7 years must be permanently inducted in service, but the farm officials have turned a blind eye to the policy and ignored the workers," added Kerkar.
According to reports, 10 workers are working as milk men at Animal Husbandry department for the last seven years and of the 10 six workers are working at Koparde cattle breeding farm, while the other four are working at Mollem-Dhat Farm.
Sources said all the 10 workers are given break since the six months. Now, the Director of Animal Husbandry department, Santosh Desai has issued a special circular to retain these workers on duty as early as possible. However, the officials of Koparde and Mollem-Dhat cattle breeding farm have reportedly denied resumption in services of the said workers and told the workers that the circular had some grammatical mistakes which was issued by the Animal Husbandry department.
"A memorandum will be submitted to the Director of Animal Husbandry department and also to the minister concerned highlighting the grievances of the workers. If government fails to fulfill the demand, we will knock the doors of the court demanding justice," threatened Kerkar.
