MARGAO
Passengers on the Margao-Panjim route were caught unawares following the protest by the mining dependents in the state capital on Monday, with many passengers stranded at the Margao KTC bus stand around noon.
With the KTC authorities in Panjim deciding to terminate Margao-Panjim shuttle buses at Bambolim as a precautionary measure, the shuttle service between the two destinations was suspended around 12.12 pm on Monday. However, local KTC buses plying on the Margao-Panjim route continued services, dropping passengers up to Bambolim with the police not allowing the buses to continue till the Panjim KTC bus stand.
Many passengers heading to Panjim were taken by surprise as they thronged the inquiry counter seeking information on the resumption of services. With the KTC authorities unable to give any commitment on the resumption of services, many a passenger took the local service between the two points. It was only at around 4.15 pm that the KTC Margao depot officials finally resumed the shuttle service, bringing a sigh of relief to the beleaguered passengers.
A senior KTC depot official told The Goan that though the authorities were forced to suspend shuttle service operations around noon, there was no untoward incident involving KTC buses on the Margao-Panjim route.
