Parrikar was speaking at a public interaction organized to discuss the issues and grievances concerning infrastructure, security, illumination, hygiene, water provision and illegal encroachment with stakeholders.
"We will develop KTC stand at Panaji as a model bus stand within two to three years. Experts will have to be roped in for planning. By mid-September, the planning stage will conclude. The plan will include creation of compound wall, securing perimeter, urinals, garbage management, illumination," Parrikar said.
By December, work will begin as per the approved plan and basic infrastructure such as sewage, illumination and urinals will be in place at KTC stand in Panaji, it was announced. It was also disclosed that the government is working closely with the KTC authority to devise a grievance mechanism to deal with issues in a timely manner.
He also attempted to explain the implications of Goods and Service Tax to the shopkeepers, who rent the 151 shops at KTC terminus premises. "GST is a good tax regime. But it is new and there are a few teething problems. We are all trying to grasp its implications," he said while explaining the reason behind imposition of 18 per cent GST by KTC on shopkeepers. The service tax imposed previously stood at 15 per cent.
