Speaking to media persons in Bangalore on Tuesday, Home Minister Basavraj Bommai said he has directed police and anti-narcotics officials to be on their toes and to eradicate the drug mafia, which is rising in the state.
The police have been also directed to investigate the Karnataka-Goa drug links.The Karnataka-Goa drug links have been reported in the past when Belagavi police had previously busted a number of drug rackets where international drug peddlers were using Belagavi as a point to pack and forward drugs abroad via Goa.
Bommai was replying to a question when asked about the Goa connection of the Bollywood film industry where during investigations, the Goa drugs links to Sushant Rajput’s death case had come to light.
“We have instructed police and anti-narcotics cell officials to completely dismantle the drug mafia in Karnataka, especially from Bangalore, where the Crime Control Branch (CCB) officials have already arrested some accused involved in a drug mafia in Bangalore,” said the minister.
Earlier last week, BJP State president Nalin Kumar Kateel had stated that the BJP government in Karnataka is committed to eradicate the drug menace in the state.
Terming drug addiction as a serious problem, particularly among youth and in society, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi has also asserted that all efforts would be made to eradicate the drug menace.
