Double parking along the busy Woodland-Margao police station road during the peak school leaving hours for want of vehicular parking seemed to have become the order of the day, aggravating the traffic congestion in the commercial capital.
Consider this. In the absence of vehicular parking worth its name in the commercial capital and failure of the authorities to put the old Margao bus stand for effective parking use, parents who come to collect their wards after the schools ends for the day in the afternoons have been left with no option than to parking vehicles on both sides of the road.
The situation had in the recent past even obstructed the movement of a fire tender using the narrow road. The authorities, however, seemed to have no solution in mind to address the issue.
In fact, when suggestions have been made in many quarters that the Old bus stand could be effectively used for vehicular parking during the peak school hours, the bus stand continues to play host to the junk, comprising of accident vehicles and fast food gaddas.
Take note, Margao Municipal officials and the market inspectors in private admit that the license conditions mandate the owners of the fast food gaddas to take the kiosks at their place of residence after business hours. Sadly, Municipal officials have not dared to initiate action and enforce the Municipal rules citing political pressure from the powers that be.
On the other hand, parents maintain they are forced to parking their vehicles along the roadsides around the schools complexes for want parking space. “We are forced to park our vehicles along the roadsides near the schools since there is absolutely no parking space available around the schools”, a parent pointed out.
Another parent suggested that the Margao Municipality and the Traffic police should explore the possibility of opening the Old Bus stand for vehicular parking during the peak school hours, especially when the schools close for the day, to avoid traffic congestion on the roads.
