Lack of recruitments hurting govt depts, says Reginaldo

Saying that nine months of absence in the running of day to day affairs of the State by ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has maimed Goa’s administration, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Saturday said that Parrikar’s sickness has put a full stop on the recruitment in all government departments, leaving the state administration inefficient and stressed out.   

“Almost all State departments and state-run institutions including Civil Supplies¸ Police, Health centres, Environment and Pollution Laboratory in the Directorate of Health Services, GMC, District Hospitals, Primary Health Centres, Food and Drugs Administration, Primary Schools, High Schools, Higher Secondary Schools, Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited etc, are not able to work at their optimum level as recruitments have completely stopped,” he said on Saturday.  

Reginaldo pointed out that nearly a year of absence of the Chief Minister from administrative work has also brought the work to standstill in all the 30 departments which he heads including Personnel, ARD, General Administration, Civil Aviation, NRI Affairs, Home, Vigilance, etc.   

“There is also talk going around in the corridors of power that austerity may even kill the winter session of the Goa Assembly which is due in the month of December. The government may postpone the session to January 2019. For a healthy democracy and for deliberation on the challenges confronting Goa, it cannot afford the continuous curtailing or postponing of its session, which started with curtailment of this year’s budget session from 22 days to just 4 days,” he added.  

The three-time Congress MLA said the real picture of the BJP which tagged itself as ‘a party with a difference’ has been revealed. 

“This saffron party continuously inflicts grievous injury to Goa’s democratic polity like its backdoor entry of grabbing power after the 2017 Goa mandate despite being severely punished by the electorate, completely curtailing the budget session, and indulging in poaching of MLAs from Congress to illegally increase its legislative strength,” he added.
