Cuncolim bypass work is yet to commence at the Uskini bandh, Cuncolim till date.

Tuesday night’s road accident at Cuncolim wherein an insulated fish container crashed into a residential house had raised a question or two amongst locals over the long-delayed Cuncolim bypass.
For, heavy inter-state vehicular traffic continues to ply right through Cuncolim town and in the market area, paralysing movement of traffic every day. In fact, traffic snarls are witnessed on the NH66 from Panzorconne to Cuncolim market on Sundays, throwing traffic out of gear.
Cuncolkars as well as motorists from other areas will have to wait for some time to get relief from the congested highway. For, while the Centre has floated the tender to expand the Cuncolim-Navelim stretch of the highway, construction of the Cuncolim bypass will take some time as the land acquisition issues are still not sorted out.
A PWD, NH official has informed that the tender for the Cuncolim bypass, from Uskini bandh to Balli village has not been floated till date as the land acquisition process is not yet complete. “Tender for the Cuncolim bypass will be floated once the land acquisition process is complete in all respects”, the official added.
Given the magnitude of the bypass work, sources in the know say the Cuncolim bypass isn’t going to see light of the day at least for the next two years, indicating that Cuncolkars will have no other option than to contend with the traffic snarls till then.
