Speaking on the proposed IIT project in Melauli, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar said if the issue of land ownership had been resolved earlier, this serious problem would not have arisen.
Chodankar said it was now imperative that landowners in Sattari taluka take an aggressive stance to address the issue. “The landowners of Sattari taluka need to intensify their agitation to solve this problem without resorting to any kind of political pressure,” he said and added, “Otherwise, the possibility of the problem becoming more serious future cannot be ruled out.”
Chodankar was speaking at a meeting on the issue of land ownership in at Shel Melauli. “Opposition to the IIT project seems to be growing day by day. But the government’s eyes are still not opening,” he asserted.
He said that there is a competition between Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane when it came to corruption. He alleged that this was an attempt to harass the people of the area by setting up an IIT project using political force. “If the locals in this area don’t want this project then why are they trying to put it on their head,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, social activist Rajesh Gavkar said that the issue of land ownership is important for the people of Sattari taluka. “It is a fact that farmers are helpless because this issue is not resolved. Every government has kept the issue in suspense. Behind the issue are their political aspirations,” he said.
Congress Valpoi President Dashrath Mandrekar criticized Vishwajit Rane and Sawant. He said the CM was playing the role of Dhritarashtra and accused Health Minister of atrocities against the people. He said the Congress party would actively participate in the agitation.
The meeting was attended by a large number of landowners from several villages.
