Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar has assured to resolve the land ownership issue in Sattari as soon as possible by holding talks with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
At a meeting in the Thane Panchayat to highlight the benefits of the new farm laws, a number of farmers informed Tendulkar that many people in Sattari taluka have been deprived of land ownership rights since liberation, depriving them of central and State agriculture schemes.
Poriem Block BJP President Govind Korgaonkar told Tendulkar that if Sattari locals are not given land ownership rights, they would not get the benefit of these schemes. He requested Tendulkar on behalf of the farmers to settle the land ownership issue.
He stated that according to a 1972 survey, about 80% of population in Sattari taluka is still registered as occupiers.
Stating that the issue of land ownership has been raging in Sattari taluka, Korgaonkar said this issue could well be a major campaign issue in the coming assembly elections.
Tendulkar then assured to try his best to resolve the issue as soon as possible by holding talks with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Tendulkar said the new agricultural policy would help farmers in the country to get better price for their produce.
“Until now, the produce of farmers was being sold through institutions or brokers. As a result, the farmers were getting lower prices. But under the new agricultural policy, this will change and farmers would get a better price for their produce,” said the Rajya Sabha MP.
