Large turnout in mining belt
CURCHOREM: A large turnout was reported in Curchorem, Sanguem, Quepem and Sanvordem constituencies, as voting took place in a peaceful manner.
The returning officers informed The Goan that there was no untoward incident in their areas.
“Initially, there was no rush at the polling booths, but polling picked up significantly later in the day as a large number of voters came to cast their ballots,” Returning Officer Prashant Shirodkar told The Goan.
Returning Officer of Curchorem, Sagun Velip, also informed that voting was peaceful and there was no untoward incident in his area of jurisdiction.
Police teams were posted all across the four constituencies to ensure free and fair polls
While elections officials appreciated the constant patrolling by the police teams and flying squads, some were unhappy with the arrangements at the polling stations.
“The toilet facility at the government school was bad and meals provided to us were of poor quality,” complained one polling officer in Sanguem taluka.
