Public will benefit only if the lawyers, who otherwise ignore various incidents taking place in the State and the country, raise their voice on various issues affecting the society, said Congress General Secretary, Vijay Bhike, suggesting that the legal fraternity should come out of their shell and openly speak and fight on issues affecting the common men.
Bhike also said that the lawyers coming together to seek justice for their colleague who was wronged will pass a strong message to the government that no injustice will be tolerated to the citizens of this country.
“If lawyers have to go to the police station and demand justice for their colleague one can understand the plight of the common man. The complaint was registered only after the lawyers put pressure on the police,” Bhike said.
The Congress General Secretary was addressing the journalists in the district Congress office in Mapusa on Saturday. North Goa District Congress President Virendra Shirodkar and Panaji corporator Joel Andrade were also present.
Bhike condemned the attack on advocate Gajanan Sawant and demanded that the case should be investigated impartially and action should be taken against those policemen involved in it.
He said the incident has shown that the police were working under political pressure. He also said that except for the political pressure by and large the police were doing good work.
Panaji corporator Joel Andrade demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Advocate General Devidas Pangam come out with a statement on the incident.
He said the government should stop bullying the police force and demanded strict action against the culprits. He also said the policemen involved in the case should be dismissed from service.
