It was Monday, considered the auspicious day for Madgavkars and Fatordekars from all walks of life. On this day, the temple bells at the Damodar Linga, Fatorda and at Pimpalkatta, Margao do not stop ringing as devotees throng these two temples to seek blessings of the presiding deity Lord Damodar.
Monday morning saw Chief Minister Pramod Sawant descending at the Damodar Linga to seek blessings for BJP Fatorda candidate Damu Naik. At the Pimpalkatta, the Opposition leader and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat offered the sacred coconut to Lord Dambab, seeking blessings for his success in the ensuing polls, before kickstarting his campaign to play his eighth innings from Margao in his career spanning 27 years.
At the Damodar Linga, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant exuded confidence that Lord Dambab will bless Damu Naik to make it to the Assembly once again.
“The BJP government over the last 10 years has ushered in development in the state. We have not only laid stress on infrastructure, but human development as well. The next five years will be a period of prosperity for the people. Though not in power, Damu Naik continued his social work to reach out to Fatordekars in his own way. His work will keep him in good stead and will ensure his victory by a huge margin,” Sawant said.
Kamat on the other hand, slammed the BJP government, terming the BJP government as the government of poverty for the last 10 years.
“My government in 2007-12 was a government of prosperity, wherein the poor and downtrodden sections of the society lived a life of prosperity. This government is also responsible for the 400-450 Covid deaths for want of oxygen. This government mismanaged the Covid situation, causing hardships to the citizens,” Kamat added.
The chief minister touched on the entry of outside political parties seeking to make a determined bid to make their presence felt in alliance with local parties. "These parties are defacing government properties with election material,” he said. Without taking names, the chief minister also did not spare local parties for forging alliance with these outside parties. “They are out to destroy the state. Some of the local parties have sold out our culture to these parties. These parties need not tell us,” the CM said.
At the Pimpalkatta, the Opposition leader Kamat thundered that only Goans who have their roots in Goa will rule the state, adding the state will not be ruled by parties coming from outside the state.
While chief minister said the victory of Damu Naik in Fatorda will help increase the BJP tally in the Assembly, and ensure continuance of government, Kamat on the other hand said Madgavkars have a big responsibility on their shoulders in the coming election.
“All eyes are focused on Margao this time. Madgavkars role will be important in the coming election. They get an opportunity not just to vote and elect the Congress party, but help decide on the future government,” he said, hinting that his election in Margao will keep him in reckoning for the post of chief minister.
