MARGAO
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has ruled out Salcete Mission in minority-dominated taluka to woo the electorate in the ensuing Assembly polls, but exuded confidence that Salcete too will bring a big change in the coming polls.
While saying the BJP will field candidates in Margao, Fatorda, Navelim, Curtorim and Cuncolim, the chief minister said the party will back candidates in the remaining three seats where the party’s presence is not that strong.
“We expect a change not just in Margao and Fatorda, but Salcete as well. Last three years my government had worked tirelessly for all sections of the people, including Salcete. We need no Salcete Mission since we have done lot of work in Salcete in the last three years and half,” Sawant said, asserting that his government did not discriminate against Salcete be it on the infrastructure development front or human development front.
When asked whether Salcete's lone minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues and Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa will contest the coming polls on the BJP banner, the chief minister shot back, “In two to three constituencies in Salcete, the party will back independents, but the party will contest in Margao, Fatorda, Curtorim, Navelim and Cuncolim.”
