Former BJP State Mahila Morcha president Sulakshana Sawant has emphasised the importance of self-defence training for women to resist any kind of sexual assault and random attacks.

Addressing the ‘Sravan Mass Mahotsav’ organised by Saligao BJP Mahila Morcha at Reis Magos on Sunday evening, Sawant also advised women to be financially independent, upgrade their skills and avail schemes to stand on their own feet.

“Self-defence training is a must for every woman. Woman should learn martial arts to keep themselves safe, fit and healthy. Self-defence training will help women can resist sexual assault and random attacks,” said Sawant.

Stating that most women are unaware of their legal rights, she advised the Mahila Morcha to conduct programmes for women on their legal rights, while also holding health camps for them.

Highlighting the importance of financial independence for women, Sawant said a woman performs the role of wife, mother, administrator, disciplinarian, teacher and nurse in the family, while also playing a key role in socio-economic development of society.
