A 66-year-old Irish woman was found dead in her rented flat at Pintowado-Candolim on August 26.
Police said the deceased, Mary Gertrude McNamara, was staying alone and about a year ago, had befriended a British couple residing at Canca.
On the day of the incident, the friend had sent her husband to check on McNamara as she did not respond to calls.
As the door was locked from the inside, he sought the help of the flat owner to open the flat and they found her on the bed.
The police were notified and the woman was taken to the PHC Candolim, where she was declared dead.
The body was then taken to the GMC hospital Bambolim, where an autopsy was performed on Monday. The cause of death is reserved pending the viscera report. Further investigations are in progress.
