PANAJI: In a one-of-its-kind initiative to facilitate web-based learning in schools, Directorate of Education, State Council for Educational Research and Training and Google Educators’ Group in joint collaboration have decided to start six web-based learning/training centres at six places across the State.
Speaking to The Goan, SCERT Director Nagraj Honnekeri said, “Today the web-based technology is widely spread and it is being used by everyone. The very purpose of this training programme is to equip our teachers with the new and latest technology whereby they can make use of it in the teaching-learning process.”
These six centres are: DIET, Porvorim; MES Higher Secondary School, Vasco; Fr Agnel Higher Secondary School, Pilar; Chandrabhaga Tukoba Naik Higher Secondary School, Curchorem; Government Higher Secondary School, Sankhli and GVM’s BEd College, Ponda.
The Google Educators’ Group along with Learning Links Foundation have come forward with the initiative of training teachers.
“At first instance we have already trained the leads. Every centre has got nearly 5 leads who are the master resource persons. These 30 teachers will conduct training sessions for the other remaining teachers. The training programme will start from December 7,” he said.
Speaking about the training, Honnekeri said, “The training is totally online. First and foremost teachers will be trained in using the web technology. For instance Google has introduced things like Goggle Drive, Cloud Space, Google+, among others. Additionally, Google has also introduced websites specially designated for education and it will help teachers. It will assist them to update their knowledge which will also be accepted by the children because they are in that particular era.”
Nearly 840 teachers will be trained from 420 schools across the State which will include one computer teacher and one other.
When asked how this in turn will benefit students, he said, “Equipping teachers will have a direct impact on the students. They will make use of this technology in the classrooms. There are many occasions where teachers are unable to explain with models and charts. The new technology will help them to teach with the help of videos, clips, 3D animations which will also to make the concept clear.”
