Headline: Nod to plots gets strict in Areal
The gram sabha of Sao Jose de Areal village on Sunday resolved that no permission should be given for development of plots without open space, space for electric transformer and waste bins.
At the Sunday gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Gabriel Oliveira, members demanded that the Panchayat write to the Town and Country Planning department the resolution of the gram sabha before they grant approval for the plots.
The meeting also remembered priest turned activist Bismarque Dias with a prayer as members remembered him for taking meetings in different wards of the village in the battle against illegal activities.
The dust pollution also figured at the meeting with members pointing out that the Carbon dust pollution has spread at a one km radium and has affected residential houses, including places of worship such as Churches. When members demanded to know why the Panchayat has still not held an inspection of the factory premises, Sarpanch Oliveira informed members that the Panchayat will soon hold a joint inspection along with Goa State Pollution Control Board, village Panchayat and the villagers.
The villagers along with the Sarpanch and members later visited the Church premises and found out how the carbon dust has settled on the compound walls and other structures.
On the question of scrap yards, the Sarpanch replied saying that his office has received a letter from the Collectorate office and Chief Minister’s office to raze down the illegal scrap yards, promising action against the yards within 15 days.
Members questioned the changes made in the regional plan 2001 showing industrial zones to settlement zone on, resolving that the industrial zone should be retained only for the development and employment of the village.
