MAPUSA
Slamming the BJP-led government for trying to legalise the growth of cannabis in the State, NCP General Secretary Sanjay Barde on Wednesday said the decision would spell disaster and make it easier for youth to come under the influence of drugs.
“Legalising growth of cannabis will convert Goa into a drug zone. It is an open invitation to our youth to dabble with drugs. We will never allow this to happen in Goa,” Barde thundered.
The NCP general secretary was addressing a news conference along with other office-bearers in Mapusa.
Continuing, Barde said the people of Goa kept faith in the BJP government thinking that it would do something good for the State.
“Everyone thought we will get ‘Ram Rajya’ under the BJP rule. But we have all seen what we are getting into. Growing marijuana in our State appears to be the last nail in the coffin,” he said.
“The BJP appears to be all at sea and do not know what they are getting into. First, they wanted to make Goa into a casino hub, then into a prostitution hub and now a drug hub,” he added.
The NCP general secretary further said that it will oppose tooth and nail on the government's decision to legalise the growth of cannabis in the State.
“It looks like BJP is going to be the major beneficiary of the decision. But we do not want cannabis in the State and will oppose the decision,” Barde said.
