Relentless rains in Belagavi and Khanapur have severely disrupted daily life. Rivers and streams in the western parts of the district are overflowing, causing widespread flooding. Many low-lying bridges and areas in Belagavi city and surrounding areas are now submerged.
As a result, about seven villages have been cut off due to the flooding of a key bridge.
In Khanapur taluka, the Malaprabha River has swelled, submerging a low-lying bridge on Haltar Nullah since early morning.
This has halted traffic between Goa and Khanapur via the Khanapur-Hemadaga-Anmod routes. Small vehicles have been rerouted through Manturga village, while buses and heavy vehicles are prohibited from using the route.
The bridge remained underwater until late evening, and Khanapur police have put up a sign banning vehicle entry. “Currently, vehicles are being redirected through the Jamboti-Chorla route. The bridge is expected to stay submerged as long as the heavy rains continue. The situation will only improve if the rain stops for a few hours,” said Khanapur Circle PI Manjunath Nayak.
Commuters are facing significant difficulties due to the ban on vehicles travelling from Ramnagar-Anmod to Goa. This has increased traffic on the Chorla route, leading to congestion in some areas.
