Tree falls on house in Mardol, 70-year-old man injured

PONDA

Ramdas Naik, 70, was injured when a tree fell on his house in Seemepain, Mardol. He has been admitted to Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim for treatment. His wife, Shashikala Naik, suffered minor injuries and is being treated at the Sub-District Hospital. The damage to their house is estimated at over Rs 5 lakh. Firefighters from Kundai fire station worked late into the evening to cut down the fallen trees.

At the time of the incident, Ramdas Naik’s son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren were in a different part of the house and were fortunately unharmed.

In Dharbandoda, heavy rain and strong winds caused several tree branches to fall around 5.30 am on Friday. This resulted in broken power lines and a power outage in the area. The Ponda fire brigade quickly responded to clear the trees.

On Thursday, the road at Amarkhane-Keri sank, disrupting traffic. Vehicles were rerouted from Keri to Betiki-Khandola through alternative routes. Additionally, a wall at Ramdas Naik’s house in Haveli Kurti collapsed on Thursday night, causing significant damage. Former chairman of the Ponda Municipal Corporation, Ritesh Naik, visited the site to assess the damage.

On Friday morning, the roads at Davkon and Nirankal were submerged, making it difficult for students to reach their high school in the Ponda area.
