Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said that the contribution of the BJP’s North Goa candidate for Lok Sabha election Shirpad Naik cannot be overlooked and cited various development projects undertaken by the union minister in the coastal belt such as Calangute beach toilets block, Candolim beach garden, Aguada fort renovation, Rs 28 crore jail museum, etc.
“These projects were executed using funds received from the Centre and were made possible through the dedicated efforts of Shripad Bhau during his tenure as Union Minister. Implementing such extensive development initiatives in coastal areas posed significant challenges, but Shripad Bhau's commitment made it achievable,” Lobo said.
He said presently, notices have been issued under CRZ, declaring many houses in coastal areas as illegal. “To address this issue and legalise these residences, we require the support of Shripad Bhau. Let us ensure his re-election with a significant majority of votes,” he said.
The Calangute Lobo was addressing a gathering at Shripad Naik’s campaign meeting in the Calangute constituency on Friday.
Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira expressed confidence in Shripad's re-election with a substantial majority this time. Highlighting Shripad's numerous development initiatives in North Goa, he mentioned the construction of a crematorium for Hindu brethren in the Calangute area.
In his address, Shripad Naik acknowledged the support received in his five consecutive terms as North Goa MP and expressed gratitude for the nomination to the Lok Sabha for the sixth time.
He attributed the coastal area's development to the funds allocated by the Centre, stressing the necessity of these funds for future tourism sector enhancements. Shripad credited major development projects such as the Ayush Hospital, the Mandovi-Zuari Bridge, and the Super Speciality Hospital to the Centre's contributions.
