Stating that unemployment in Canacona taluka is on the alarming rise, Congress leader Janardhan Bhandari and locals met managements of starred resorts in Canacona to demand immediate reservation of 75% jobs to local youth, allotment of various supply and other contracts to locals.
Under the banner of ‘Vision & Mission Progressive Canacona, Bhandari along with Canacona councillor Shubhabam Komarpant met managements of two starred hotels and submitted representations putting forth their demands.
“Unemployed youth from Canacona are constantly approaching us and demanding to resolve the issue of unemployment in Canacona. Despite sacrificing land, two starred hotels are not giving the contracts to Canacona people,” said Bhandari.
“Canaconcars should get sufficient benefit from these starred resorts. We have met the managements of these starred resorts.”
Their demands include giving top priority by reserving 75% jobs and other contracts to local youth from Canacona in hotels.
They also demanded a resolution to the taxi parking issues of local taxi drivers and to resolve issues of noise, dust and air pollution. There was also a demand to make proper arrangements of sewage system surrounding both hotels.
“We have given both hotels an ultimatum of 7 days to fulfil our demands as mentioned in our memorandum, failing which we have warned them to take further steps in a democratic manner to fulfil our rightful demands,” said Bhandari.
