PERNEM
Residents along the coastal areas of Pernem taluka had welcomed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s decision to set up the new Mandrem police station to cater to the coastal villages.
Pernem taluka initially had only one police station to cater to 20 panchayats and one municipal council in Pernem taluka. The government later set up the Mopa Airport police station for the airport and surrounding villages, thereby reducing the workload of the Pernem police station.
Mandrem Sarpanch Amit Sawant welcomed the announcement of a new Mandrem police station.
“The coastal belts at Morjim, Ashwem, Mandrem, Harmal and Keri in Mandrem constituency get crowded with tourists during the tourist season and incidents of molestation, rape, thefts are common here. Owing to the increasing crimes in the coastal belt, a separate police station is the need of the hour,” said Sawant.
