3 held for burgling gold, cash worth Rs 9.2 L at Shiroda

Ponda police have arrested three persons, including a woman, on charges of stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 9 lakh and cash of Rs 20,000 in a burglary at Pajimal-Shiroda on June 9.

The police have arrested Gabby Paulo Fernandes (25) from Ambe Udak Sanvordem, Shabnam Vyankatesh Chalwadi (24) from Navelim and originally from Dharwad, and Mohamad Kasim alias Dipak Manur Shaikh (22) from Chandor.

According to the sources, some unknown persons entered Rasika Prashant Painginkar’s house which was closed sometime between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm on June 9 and stole gold ornaments weighing 180 gram and cash Rs 20,000.

Following a complaint, police began investigations and had found that on that particular day, three unknown persons were moving in the village in a vehicle, and one of them was a woman. On further investigation, the police took the suspects from Margao for inquiry. The suspects admitted their crime after which all three were arrested.

The accused, Gabby Paulo Fernandes and Mohamad Kasim alias Dipak Manur Shaik, have a number of offenses registered against them in many police stations. Ponda police is investigating the case.
