Locals in Corlim raise pitch against mobile tower

Locals in Corlim raise pitch against mobile tower

OLD GOA

Corlim locals on Sunday raised their pitch against a mobile tower which is being installed at Mollar asserting that the same did not have the licences from authorities concerned.

The issue of the tower came up at the gram sabha on Sunday with those in attendance voicing their opposition to the same. The locals pointed out that the party installing the tower didn’t have the licenses from the panchayat and the provisional NOC had already lapsed.

“The NOC from GSPCB is also not issued and hence the work undertaken is illegal,” said Richard Pereira, who demanded that the panchayat should move for demolition of the tower.

Speaking on the issue, Sarpanch Shiva Naik agreed that the provisional NOC issued by a former sarpanch for installation of the tower had lapsed and that stop-work notice has been already issued to the party.

“The panchayat has also not received any documents from the party concerned despite the notices issued by the panchayat and it continues to work on installation of the mobile tower,” Naik informed while assuring the villagers that the local body will not issue any licence for its

installation.

Later, speaking to the media Naik stated that the panchayat is bound by a legal process for demolition which will be followed. “It cannot happen overnight,” he added.

The village development plan was also discussed at the meeting, where villagers were made aware of the various developmental works being proposed for the village.

The sarpanch asked for more suggestions from the villagers so that the same could be incorporated into the plan before it is approved.

The villagers also pointed out to the overflowing sewage water in a residential colony and asked the panchayat authorities to act on the same.

The issue of garbage was also discussed at length. Meanwhile, Sarpanch Naik expressed his happiness over the large turnout at the gram sabha and urged the people to continue attending the meetings in large numbers and give their valuable suggestions to the panchayat in undertaking development in Corlim.
