Locals must be taken into confidence on Cuncolim bypass alignment: Yuri

MARGAO
Welcoming the announcement by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari of allotting Rs 310.92 crore for the proposed construction of the Cuncolim bypass on the NH66, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has appealed to the Ministry of Road Transport to ensure that the alignment of the bypass will not cause any damage to the existing residential houses and will not cause any major environmental damage.

Saying that traffic congestion at Cuncolim is a major issue, Yuri said movement of heavy vehicles through the main market area is causing serious danger to the pedestrians who visit the market. “There are various schools just few metres away from the existing highway and vehicular traffic also causes serious threat to school children,” pointed Yuri.

“I hope the Public Works Department as well as Ministry of Road Transport will prepare the new alignment of the bypass by taking the local residents into confidence. I will see to it that the residential houses are not damaged at any cost due to the bypass,” said Yuri.

He further said the government should also ensure that the highway expansion from Dandewado to Uskini Arik is taken up by taking locals into confidence. There should not be any threat to the existing houses, he said.

Promising to keep a close watch on the process of land acquisition for the bypass as well as highway expansion, Yuri has assured the people that he would ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the locals.
