Locals have strongly opposed a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) shed to be constructed by Aldona Panchayat near Ramtaleshwar temple.

Angry locals gathered near the site and demanded that the sarpanch to stop the construction work. The Mamlatdar later directed the suspension of the construction work till Tuesday and a hearing is expected to take place before the deputy collector.

The Aldona Panchayat had decided to construct an MRF shed at Calvim, but the plan was strongly objected by residents in Calvim.

The MRF shed was then proposed to be constructed near the Corjuem crematorium, but locals along with Devidas Panjikar went to the High Court against the MRF shed. The panchayat then removed the shed following the high court directions.

The panchayat then began construction of the MRF shed near Ramtaleshwar temple in Ramtale.

Locals in the area also raised objections to the location and submitted their objections to the Panchayat and government authorities. However, construction work continued to take place.

On Saturday afternoon, the locals gathered near the construction site and opposed the construction while also confronting Aldona Sarpanch Ashwin D’Souza and panch member Abhidnya Satardekar, sparking off tension for some time.

The Mamlatdar Shailendra Desai, DySP Yashwant Mandrekar and Mapusa PI Sitakant Naik rushed to the site with a police force.

The Mamlatdar then directed Sarpanch Ashwin D’Souza to stop construction work of MRF shed.

Accordingly, the Sarpanch assured to suspend the work and the matter will be heard before the deputy collector on December 26. The mamlatdar has directed both parties to be present at the hearing.
