MARGAO
Call it panic buying or otherwise, shoppers hit the roads on Wednesday moments after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced the lockdown from Thursday evening.
Hundreds, if not thousands, of shoppers rushed to the commercial capital to make purchases at the Goa Bagayatdar, Borkar stores and the main markets on Wednesday evening.
One could find a queue of shoppers at the Goa Bagayatdar, Arlem on Wednesday evening soon after the Chief Minister announced the lockdown. Other shopping centres in the commercial capital also witnesses a rush of shoppers, with traders saying the rush is expected to only increase on Thursday before Goa goes into a lockdown mode.
Though the Chief Minister has announced a lockdown only for three days, rumours are afloat that the government has gone for a short lockdown to give the citizens an opportunity to make emergency purchases, with people anticipating that the lockdown may get a further extension for another week.
