BELAGAVI
The Karnataka government has extended the lockdown in Belagavi and 10 other districts till June 21.
The announcement was made by Karnataka Chief Minister Yediyurappa late Thursday evening after chairing a meeting with district in-charge ministers.
After discussions with the expert committee, Yediyurappa announced the lockdown in Belagavi, Chikkamagaluru, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Mysuru, Kodagu, Bangalore Rural, Chamrajnagar, Tumakuru, Mandya and Shivamogga districts and confirmed that the lockdown would continue in these districts for at least one more week.
Barring the above districts, the state government-mandated lockdown regulations amid the Covid second wave will expire on June 14 with a few relaxations including the opening of the market till 2 pm.
It may be recalled that Belagavi was included in the list due to its proximity to Goa and Maharashtra, where Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol had stated that a lockdown would be extended in Belagavi as Covid cases were high in the bordering areas of Goa and Kolhapur.
