Konkani is matter of pride. Konkani language gives us Goans a feeling of nostalgia and belongingness, and keeps the Goan diaspora spread all over the world together. Just as we are proud to be called Goans, we are proud to be associated with our mother tongue Konkani. An attempt to take our language so dear in the Guinness Book of World Records deserve all laurels and admiration, said Alex Reginaldo Lourenco, Chairman of Goa IDC, speaking as the Chief Guest for the Logo launch of the event to enter the Guinness Book of World Records
Mandd Sobhann, the premier Konkani Cultural Association based in Mangalore will organise the First World Konkani Music Mega-Convention from November 3 to November 15 at the Town Hall Auditorium in Mangalore in honour of its founder and ‘Gurkar’, Eric Ozario, the enthusiastic and zealous Konkani patriot who passed away recently.
The First World Konkani Music Mega-Convention is organised as an attempt to break the existing record of Gujarat and create a new record to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, for the Longest Singing Marathon by Multiple Singers, for 12 days, 12 hours, and 12 minutes. In this effort, over 7,000 singers from across Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, and other states, as well as from the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Australia, and other countries, will participate singing around 5,000 Konkani songs. 50 Goan groups coordinated by Goa’s Cultural activist, Michael Jude Gracias, comprising of around 1500 singers above the age of 16 will be participating in the event.
During these days, various seminars on Folk Music of Goa, Religious Music, Music for Health, Mangalorean Konkani Folk Music, International Music, Baila “ Diversity and Interrelationships, Cinema Music, Music Composition, AI and Music, Copyright and Intellectual Property Rights, Music Production and Studio Technology, The Impact of Mandd Sobhann’s Music Revolution, will be organised. Veterans who have made significant achievements in the field of music will be honoured by persons of National stature. Besides there will also be a Hall of Fame and an exhibition of items related to music and culture.
